It has been a while since I picked up some Vans. Even though the Old Skool trend seems to be coming to a close, these J-Crew Vans Old Skool Turtledove still feel like a great pair to pick up.
These get their name from the colorway and released alongside a “dress blues” colorway. Both colorways appear to be J-Crew exclusives.
These are basically a light grey/bone/offwhite type of colorway. Even the midsoles aren’t pure white. I found a grey tee and some light wash denim to be the easiest fit to pull off. I’m sure a darker outfit would also work and create more contrast. For simplicity though, light jeans and a light top are no-brainers here.
The uppers are suede and the ankle liner is leather. The leather quality seems really good and the suede is soft if not super lush. These aren’t the best materials I’ve ever seen on a pair of Vans, but they do beat out a more general release pair and are definitely nice. Especially at this price point; I’m not sure you will find another brand that gives you this level of quality at this price.
How Do They Fit?
According to J-Crew’s site, these fit a half size big. I went true to size and they do feel a little big, but not uncomfortably so. It’s likely you could get away with either. Regardless, these overall provide a basic level of comfort and are easy to throw on and wear. They also have less of a complicated fit than a pair of Sk8 His and less ankle rub than some Authentics.
Overall these is a great looking collab and totally worth it even at retail. TFor my first pair of Old Skools, I wanted something special, and these fit the bill. Definitely consider this colorway or the dress blues while they are still available online!
